COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Fresno State senior quarterback Jake Haener has been named the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week for his performance that led Fresno State to its 55-13 win against Hawai'i last Saturday night at Valley Children's Stadium.
Monday's announcement marks the first time this season, and the second of his career, that Haener has earned the honor from the conference. He is the second Bulldog to earn a weekly honor from the conference this season, but it is the first time a Bulldog has earned the offensive recognition since Jordan Mims on Nov. 1, 2021.
Last weekend, Haener completed 24-of-29 passes for 327 yards. Saturday marked Haener's 16th career 300-yard passing game. He is now tied for fifth-most 300-yard passing games in league history.
Also in the win, Haener threw for a season-high four touchdown passes with no interceptions. Haener had his longest touchdown pass of the season with a 59-yarder to Jalen Moreno-Cropper. The Danville, Calif. native has thrown at least one touchdown pass in 24 consecutive games (every game of his Bulldog career). That streak is the third-longest in Mountain West history.
With his first touchdown pass of the game, it snapped a four-game streak for the Rainbow Warriors who had not allowed a passing touchdown since Oct. 8 to San Diego State.
Haener led the Bulldogs offense to seven-straight scoring drives in the game. Fresno State scored on eight-straight drives with its backups in for the eighth successful drive, and bringing the punt team out for the first time late in the fourth quarter on its ninth drive of the game.
In just his second game back from injury, Haener led the Bulldogs to 572 yards of total offense. It was the most in a game since the 'Dogs had 671 against Cal Poly on Sept. 11, 2021. It was the most total offensive yards by the Bulldogs in a Mountain West game since recording 599 at Nevada on Dec. 5, 2020.
Behind Haener the Bulldog offense scored 55 points. It was the most points scored for the 'Dogs this season. Fresno State's 42-point margin of victory is its largest margin of victory in a conference game since recording a 48-3 win on Nov. 3, 2018 at UNLV (45 points).
