FRESNO, Calif. – Women's basketball returned to the Save Mart Center on Friday night as Fresno State defeated San Francisco State 75-59 in an exhibition contest.
Fifth-year seniors Amaya West (20 points) and Amiee Book (16 points) guided a young group of Bulldogs to a comfortable victory after leading by 16 at the half.
How It happened
Close through the opening few minutes, Franka Wittenberg sunk a corner 3 in her first seconds after entering the game. The triple started a 12-3 stretch that saw three different 'Dogs bury one from behind the arc as the lead moved to double digits at 21-10 with 3:52 remaining in the first.
The Bulldogs shot a blistering 76.9 percent from the field (10-of-13), piling up 31 points.
Fresno State upped the lead to 15 early in the second but the Gators answered with six straight. The 'Dogs countered, locking in defensively, getting the next eight from three different players to extend its lead to 17 late in the half. The Bulldogs held San Francisco State to just 1-of-11 from the field in the period.
Leading wire-to-wire, Fresno State saw out the 16-point victory with a pair of 16-point quarters after the half.

The Bulldogs get their regular season underway on Monday, tipping off at 4:30 p.m. PT against Fresno Pacific. The game is part of doubleheader with the men's team against the Sunbirds. The women's game will broadcast locally on CW59 and stream on the Mountain West Network.
