Fresno State falls to UNLV, 5-3

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State softball team fell to UNLV 5-3 in the season finale on Saturday afternoon at Margie Wright Diamond.

The Bulldogs were outhit 8-5 in the contest. Senior Emery Nielson had a team-best two hits. Fellow senior Kacey Hitved launched a solo home run over the left-field wall. Three 'Dogs saw time in the circle.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

The Rebels jumped out to a 4-0 in the second inning off four hits. UNLV tacked on another run in the fifth inning.

The Bulldogs responded in the bottom of the fifth with a solo home run from Hvitved. Fresno State added two runs in the next inning. Nielson and Keahilele Mattson drew back-to-back walks to start the inning. Alesia Denby plated a run with an RBI ground out. Trayn Irigoyen chalked another RBI ground out to make it a two-run game going into the final inning.

The 'Dogs sent the Rebels down in order to start the seventh inning. Fresno State had two on base with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, but UNLV was able to record the final out to secure the win.
