CLOVIS, Calif. – Following the first day of multi-events at the Mountain West Outdoor Track Championships, freshman Madison Hutton sits fourth in the women's heptathlon with 3,065 points while sophomore Garrett Ostrinski is sixth in the men's decathlon with 3,610 points.
Hutton opened the day with back-to-back personal bests, clocking a 14.47 in the 100-meter hurdles and a 1.62m/5-3.75 in the high jump. She closed out the day with her third PB, finishing the 200 meters in 26.26. The Surrey, England native remained in fourth throughout Wednesday and heads into the final day 198 points back of third in the standings. Kaja Bins and Kaitlynn Perez each turned in a pair of PBs and sit in 11th and 12th, respectively.
Ostrinski was quick out of the gates, winning his heat in the 100 meters with a PR of 11.28. He followed up by registering his second PR with a 6.73m/22-1 on his final attempt in the long jump. Slipping back in the standings after the shot put, Ostrinski rebounded with a 1.92m/6-3.5 in the high jump, second-best in the competition. Just over a half-second back of his best in the 400 meters with a 51.21, the sophomore moved back to sixth to concluded the first day, 107 points outside of third and 117 back of second.Meinkaikay Kaye wrapped of the opening day of his first career decathlon in 10th with 3,015 points.
