’Dogs fall in snowy series finale

Four Bulldogs recorded multi-hit games – Abby Doughty, Keahilele Mattson, Taryn Irigoyen and Alyssa Orr – in Sunday's series finale in Reno.

RENO, Nev. – The Fresno State softball team lost 11-6 to the Nevada Wolf Pack on Sunday at Christina M. Hixson Softball Park.

Fresno State (18-34, 9-12 Mountain West) took an early lead and battled throughout the game, which featured a mixture of sunny and cloudy skies mixed with sideways snow flurries and wind gusts over 25 miles per hour for much of the series finale in Reno.

Four Bulldogs recorded multi-hit games – Abby Doughty, Keahilele Mattson,Taryn Irigoyen and Alyssa Orr, but three costly defensive errors led to five unearned runs for the Wolf Pack.

How it happened: Fresno State took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning before the Pack answered with four unearned runs in the second.

After the Bulldogs added another run in the fourth when Irigoyen launched her second home run of the weekend, the Pack scored three in the bottom half of the inning.

In the fifth, Mattson crushed a three-run homer and Avery Lawley delivered a 2-out, RBI single through the right side to give the 'Dogs four runs and cut the deficit to 7-6.

Nevada responded with a RBI double and two home runs to pull away in the sixth.

Next up: Fresno State will host UNLV on Thursday at 6 p.m. PT in the first of a three-game regular season closing Mountain West series at Margie Wright Diamond.
