FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State softball team defeated UCSB 10-2 in a midweek matchup on Tuesday night at Margie Wright Diamond. The Bulldogs recorded their fourth victory by run rule after ending the game in sixth inning.
Fresno State (17-32) outhit UCSB 8-5 on the night. Sophomore Bailey Williams went 2-for-4 with a team-high four RBIs. Freshman Taryn Irigoyen was also clutch at the plate for the 'Dogs going 2-for-2 with two RBIs.
In the circle, Marley Hanlon and Danielle Lung split time. Hanlon earned her fifth win of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Fresno State retired UCSB in order to start the contest before jumping out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. The 'Dogs loaded the bases with three walks. Williams belted a triple to center field to plate three runs. Avery Lawley brought the fourth run across with a sacrifice fly.
The 'Dogs extended their lead over the next two innings, scoring two runs on four hits.
UCSB scored its first run in the fourth inning, but Fresno State matched it with two runs in the bottom of the inning.
The Bulldogs finished the game in the fifth by plating two runs.

Fresno State will head to Reno to continue Mountain West play against Nevada.
