Dogs to visit Cal on Sunday night

Fresno State Athletics is celebrating its centennial year and the 2021-22 men's basketball season is the 100th season of competition in program history.

Fresno State (5-0) and California (2-4) meet on Sunday night at Haas Pavilion on Pac-12 Networks.

Fresno State head coach Justin Hutson is now in his fourth season back home in the San Joaquin Valley.

Through games played on Nov. 26, Fresno State is one of 28 unbeaten teams remaining in the nation (one of three in the state of California).

OPENING TIP

The Fresno State men's basketball team visits the California Golden Bears on Sunday at 6 p.m. PT at Haas Pavilion in Berkeley on Pac-12 Networks (television) and the Bulldog Sports Network (radio).

This is the third game between Fresno State and Cal in the last four seasons with each team defending their homecourt in the previous two meetings. The 'Dogs beat the Bears 95-73 in Fresno in 2018 and Cal won 69-63 in Berkeley in 2019.

Fresno State trails the all-time series 7-3 (overall) and seeks its first win over Cal in Berkeley.

Fresno State forward Orlando Robinson (19.6 ppg/9.4 rpg) is one of three Bulldogs averaging at least 11 points per game this season [Isaiah Hill (11.2 ppg) and Jordan Campbell (11.0 ppg)].

FRESNO STATE WINS 2021 VENUE TWIN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA CHALLENGE SURF DIVISION

Fresno State won the 2021 Venue Twin Southern California Surf Division Championship.

Fresno State's Orlando Robinson was named the Surf Division Most Valuable Player and all-tournament team while leading the 'Dogs to a 3-0 record (all three wins were by exactly seven points). 

Robinson averaged 21.7 points (22-for-41 FG, 53.7 percent), 8.0 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.3 blocks per game to lead the Bulldogs to a home win over Idaho and neutral site victories over Pepperdine and Santa Clara.

In the SoCal Challenge championship game, Fresno State held Santa Clara, who entered the game averaging 88 points per contest on 55 percent shooting, to a season-low 52 points on a 36 percent clip from the field.

Fresno State's Isaiah Hill tied a career-high with 19 points (11-for-16 FT) in the 70-63 win over Pepperdine.

Robinson scored a season-high 27 points with 10 rebounds in the Bulldogs' 69-62 win over Idaho.

In the three wins, Hill posted 11.3 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game.

Fresno State is 5-0 to start the season for the first time since the 2015-16 season when the Bulldogs opened 5-0, later won the 2016 MW Tournament and played in the 2016 NCAA Tournament.

Fresno State is seeking its first 6-0 start since opening 7-0 in 2006.

Fresno State's Orlando Robinson has scored in double figures in a career-best 14 consecutive games.

Fresno State is 11-0 when Anthony Holland has scored at least eight points in that game.

In Hutson's tenure, Fresno State has outscored autonomy-five conference schools [TCU, Northwestern, Miami, Cal (twice) and Oregon] by a combined score of 438-427 (+11).

FRESNO STATE CONTENDING IN THE MOUNTAIN WEST

Since joining the Mountain West in 2012, Fresno State has won the 2016 conference tournament championship and finished as high as second in the regular season. The Bulldogs have finished no lower than seventh in league play in its first nine seasons in the Mountain West, which includes four top four finishes in the past six seasons. In those last six MW campaigns, the 'Dogs won an average of 10.8 MW contests per year -- twice going 13-5 against MW opponents, including Hutson's first season at Fresno State during the 2018-19 season. Fresno State averaged nearly 10 conference victories per season in Hutson's first three seasons as the Bulldogs' head coach.
