Zach Braff and Donald Faison are rewatching their legendary 2000s-era sitcom Scrubs, the show that brought them together and made them the Fake Doctors, Real Friends they are today. (Zach says, “We’re like a married couple. Every time someone sees me they go, ‘Send my love to Donald!’”) On this episode, Zach puts their producer Joelle Monique’s Internet search history in serious peril to confirm his suspicions about where the Sacred Heart Hospital must be located, Donald is jealous that Zach got to meet Kevin Feige at the Emmys, and they decide that if there was a “Todd” in real life, he would be “fired immediately.” Then Archie from Alaska calls in to play his Fake Doctors remix track and ask for tips about staying motivated to finish creative projects.

First, they have to talk about how Zach didn’t win an Emmy for directing the “Biscuits” episode of Ted Lasso. Donald confesses that he cried a little, and admires how Zach managed to not look disappointed. “I practiced my ‘they got it right’ face,” Zach jokes. “It’s not just clapping, but there’s a little nod like, ‘Yeah, they got it right. That’s correct.’” He does admit that the Lasso afterparty was a little awkward; the show otherwise swept the awards, and the party was themed around the fan favorite biscuits, “so it was almost like a horror movie, everywhere I went everyone had a trophy….it was like Biscuits! Trophy! Biscuits! Trophy! And I was like, ‘I gotta get out of here!’” he laughs. However, “it was fun to be on the winning team,” and he was so happy that the series creator Bill Lawrence won: “He’s been making TV for so long, starting with Spin City, and never got acknowledged….and look at all the joy and thousands of hours he’s brought to people,” he says. “I was so proud.”

The Scrubs episode has some iconic moments in it, including the meme that gets sent to Zach the most, and they both laughed about “J.D.” stealing menthol spray to make himself cry during scenes of the vampire doctor movie he’s making on his cell phone (because “my German financier Hans died on the Autobahn.”). “I guess there’s a lot of crying in Dr. Acula,” Zach laughs. “Wouldn’t you love to see the cell phone video footage of J.D.’s attempt to shoot Dr. Acula?” Plus some funny stories about Billy Porter, Roger Deacons, and Sarah Chalke, how Munchausen syndrome got its name, a sincere message about healthcare workers, and great advice for creative discipline, all on this hilarious episode of Fake Doctors, Real Friends.
