Police Warn Flushing Drugs Down The Toilet Could Create 'Meth-Gators'

A police department in Tennessee is warning residents not to flush illegal drugs down the toilet because they could end up being ingested by wild animals. The Loretto Police Department explained that when you flush drugs down the toilet, they end up in retention ponds, where the water is stored for processing before it is sent downstream.

"Now our sewer guys take great pride in releasing water that is cleaner than what is in the creek, but they are not really prepared for meth," the department wrote on Facebook. "Ducks, Geese, and other fowl frequent our treatment ponds and we shudder to think what one all hyped up on meth would do."

They also cautioned that if discarded methamphetamine manages to make it further downstream, it could be eaten by alligators, creating "meth-gators in Shoal Creek and the Tennessee River down in North Alabama."

The department offered to help residents safely dispose of illegal drugs and reminded people they can dispose of prescription medication in specially marked containers at city hall.
