FRESNO, Calif. – Following winter break, Fresno State will be back in action on Friday to compete in the Spokane Sports Showcase at The Podium.

Nine of the 24 Bulldogs competing this weekend are new to the program this year.

NEW 'DOGS SHOWING OUT

During the first week of December, Fresno State opened the indoor season at the Silver State Invitational and its newest Bulldogs did not disappoint. Three newcomers entered the program's Top 10 list in four different events.

Itzia Mejia Garcia jumped into a tie for third in the 60 meters at 7.53, .06 shy of the program record. The sophomore transfer from Georgia Southern also is fourth in the 200 meters at 24.15.

Colleen Uzoekwe, a senior transfer from Oregon, moved to No. 3 in the 60-meter hurdles at 8.55.

Zoe Yeast, a senior transfer from Louisville, is seventh in the weight throw with a mark of 19.15m/62-10.

PIPION BACK FOR FINAL INDOOR SEASON

Fresno State's indoor record holder in the 200 and 400 meters began her final indoor season last month with two wins and a third-place result at the Silver State Invitational. Individually, the senior won the 400 meters with a time 53.43 on the second day of the event. That day, she also helped her 4x400 relay team to a win, finishing in 3:43.05.

MEDALIST RETURNS IN THE HIGH JUMP

The reigning bronze medalist indoors and Mountain West champion in the high jump, Liz Tarczy began her year with a new indoor-best clearance of 1.78m/5-10. She finished second in the competition on misses.

THE ROAD TO CHAMPIONSHIPS

This week is the first of five straight weekends of competition for the Bulldogs leading up to a break in the schedule before the Mountain West Championships (Feb. 27-March 1). Fresno State will be in Spokane, Wash., Seattle, Wash., and Albuquerque, N.M., twice during the stretch, and Reno, Nev., once.
