FRESNO, Calif. – Former Bulldogs Keahilele Mattson and Sophia Medellin have joined the Fresno State softball staff as graduate assistants for the 2025 season, head coach Stacy May-Johnson announced.
"We are very excited to add Sophia and Keahilele back to our team this year," said May-Johnson. "Their accomplishments speak for themselves, and they will bring the same winning attitude as members of our staff. Their help and understanding of our program will be vital components of our team's quest for a Mountain West championship and our goal of making it to the Women's College World Series."
Mattson is one of the most accomplished players in recent Fresno State history. She earned numerous accolades, including Mountain West Player of the Year (2021), Mountain West Co-Freshman of the Year (2021), NFCA Second Team All-Region (2021), and two All-Mountain West First Team honors (2021, 2023). She led the Bulldogs to the 2021 Mountain West Championship and an NCAA Regional appearance.
Mattson's name is etched in the record books at Fresno State. She ranks No. 4 in career slugging percentage, No. 5 in career home runs, and No. 9 in career doubles. She also recorded the sixth-highest single-season slugging percentage in program history (.737 in 2021).
Throughout her four-year career, Mattson started all 203 games in left field. She finished with a .338 career batting average and a .575 slugging percentage, amassing 211 hits, 123 RBIs, 40 doubles, 30 home runs, and nine triples.
Mattson graduated from Fresno State with a bachelor's degree in agricultural business in 2024. She is currently pursuing a master's degree in sustainability and feasibility studies in agricultural business environments.

Medellin spent four seasons at Cal (2020–2023) before transferring to Fresno State for the 2024 season.
She made an immediate impact with the Bulldogs, starting all 52 games at first base and earning All-Mountain West First Team honors. Medellin led the team with a .376 batting average and a .582 slugging percentage while maintaining a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage. She recorded team highs in hits (62), RBIs (39), doubles (14), and home runs (6) during the 2024 season.
At Cal, Medellin appeared in 108 games over four years, compiling 48 hits, 34 RBIs, and 11 home runs.
Medellin earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from Cal in 2023. She is currently pursuing a master's degree in sport and performance psychology.
