'Dogs outpaced by Cougars in Provo

PROVO, Utah – Allowing a season-high 55.1% shooting, Fresno State was unable to keep pace with BYU on Wednesday night, falling 95-67 at the Marriott Center in front of a crowd of 15,950.

Jalen Weaver had a game-high 15 points for the Bulldogs while connecting a season-high three 3-pointers. Amar Augillard (12) and Mykell Robinson joined him in double figures. The Cougars had four in double figures, led by Trevin Knell's 22.

How It Happened

Fresno State came out knocking down two of its first three attempts from beyond the arc but BYU connected on its first four shots to hold a 10-8 lead after three minutes.

In came Amar Augillard and the junior scored eight points in less than a minute following back-to-back triples that put the 'Dogs up 18-16. At the under-12 media timeout, Fresno State held a 20-19 advantage following a dunk from Mor Seck.

Out of the stoppage, the Cougars popped an 11-0 run in two minutes. Jasir Tremble ended the run with a corner trey off a drive from Mykell Robinson.

After trading buckets, BYU further opened up its advantage with a 12-2 run to close the half. The 'Dogs were just one of their last nine in the final 5:23 as they trailed 44-27 heading into the locker room.

Fresno State dropped in its first three 3-pointers of the second half but the Cougars had answers.

The Bulldogs made four of their first five triples in the first five minutes but their deficit still stood at 15, 56-41. Out of the break, it only grew as Fresno State was forced to call a timeout less than two minutes later with the Cougars on a 7-0 spurt to extend their advantage to 22.

With the 'Dogs facing their largest deficit at 27 following an open look from outside for Richie Saunders, Fresno State began to turn BYU over and chip away. A string of turnovers against the Bulldogs' press, led to an 11-0 run for Fresno State with five different 'Dogs scoring. But just as quick, BYU answered as its lead ballooned back up to 24 in two minutes before a pair of corner 3's from Jalen Weaver.

The Cougars scored the final 10 points as the game finished 95-67.
