'Dogs fall to Bruins in Honolulu

HONOLULU- Fresno State falls to No. 1 UCLA in the second matchup of the Rainbow Wahine Showdown at SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center on Saturday afternoon, 97-41.

How it Happened

Right from the tip, UCLA took control of the court. Bruins opened on a 20-0 run until Mia Jacobs landed a deep three. Mariah Elohim followed it through for two more shots from beyond the arc. Fresno State stacked on eight more points from Jacobs and Malaya LeSueur. Winding down to the final six seconds, Jacobs was good for one more deep three. Bulldogs threw around five more three-pointers in the first ten minutes of play. Jacobs was responsible for three of those. Fresno State outshot UCLA from beyond the arc 55% to 20%.

It was a slower offensive period for the 'Dogs connecting for six points. Saga Ukkonen opened up the second for the 'Dogs sixth three-pointer of the day. Bulldogs saw their next points come (1-1) from the charity stripe three times, twice from Kylee Fox and then Jacobs. Bulldogs neared a 40-point deficit going into the half.

Fresno State pushed through in the second half, seven players connected with the basket to tack on eighteen more points for the Bulldogs. A 6-0 run for the 'Dogs cleared two baskets for Ukkonen and Fox outside the perimeter line. Holly Griffiths had the shooters touch, her 3-pointer danced off the rim and went in. Alannah Chatfield got in on the action in her third appearance on the season. Chatfield secured the Bulldogs their final points of the game with a steady set shot from beyond the arc in the final ten seconds.
