Fox leads 'Dogs to triumph in San Diego

SAN DIEGO - Taking the court by storm right from the start, Fresno State was led by Kylee Fox and Mariah Elohim. Fresno State grabbed their first road win of the season at Lion Tree Arena on Sunday afternoon, 65-53.

Kylee Fox earned a career and season high of 21 points & seven rebounds. Fox was the Bulldogs leading scoring with 21 points, five 3PFGM and her first 20+ point game of her career. Mariah Elohim trailed closely behind with 16 points and four 3PFGM.

How it happened

Fresno State opened on a high note with a deep shot from Mariah Elohim that held the 'Dogs over till her next three-pointer, three minutes later. Tritons' Ma then hit a floating jumper, making for their final shot of the period. Bulldogs' responded with a their longest scoring run of the game, 12-0. Kylee Fox started it all with a step back jumper, followed by Maria Konstantinido's and Elohim's shots from inside the paint. Fox and Elohim kept the scoring going connecting for back-to-back three-pointers. Elohim locked in double-figures by the end of the first ten going 3-of-4 from beyond the arc.

Shooting the only way she knows how, Fox opened up with a deep three in the first thirteen seconds. Tritons looked to pick up the offensive pace with an 8-0 run. Saga Ukkonen snagged her first of many points of the night with the 'Dogs fifth three-pointer of the night. Noy shying down, Ukkonen connected with a shot from the bank, giving the 'Dogs their first double-digit lead of the game. Only bench points of the night were at the hands of Holly Griffiths on a trip to the charity line (2-2).

Fresno State held a ten point lead over UC San Diego going into the half. Bulldogs' shot 36% from the field (4-11), 40% from the three (4-10) and 75% from the foul line (3-4).

Tritons' Ma earned a three-point play after drawing an foul from Ukkonen. Mia Jacobs took her time on the court, seeing her first field goal of the night with a floating jumper from a steal by Elohim. Fox racked up another set of three 3PFG. Fresno State turned on the pressure with a 8-0 scoring run to open the final ten. Maria Konstantinidou capped off the 8-0 run also seeing shots from Jacobs and Fox. Final minutes were all Bulldogs' holding as high as a seventeen point lead. Eight points from the Tritons cut it to a twelve point lead.

UC San Diego was led by Sabrina Ma with 22 points and Kayanna Spriggs 16 points. Ma hitting the only three-pointer for the Tritons.
