Lockridge crowned MW Defensive Player of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Fresno State senior cornerback Cam Lockridge has been named the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week, announced by the conference office on Monday morning.

Lockridge grabbed two interceptions, on back-to-back drives, against rival San Jose State to lead Fresno State to a 33-10 victory last week. Lockridge also added a career-high seven tackles in the win. The win gave Fresno State possession of the Valley Trophy after surrendering it to the Spartans in 2023. Lockridge was a part of a Bulldog defense that held San Jose State to just 10 points, its fewest in a game since scoring 10 against Fresno State in 2022, and more than 22 points below their season average.

Lockridge had two interceptions himself against an offense who had only thrown two in a game two other times this season. His interceptions came by two different Spartan quarterbacks. Fresno State had four total interceptions on the night, off of three different quarterbacks.

Last Saturday marked Lockridge's second multi-interception game of the season, and his first in Mountain West play. The two picks tie for the most by a player in the MW in a conference game this season.

With two interceptions last weekend, he brings his total to five on the year to pace the Mountain West. In addition to that, he extends his career number to 14 to also lead all active FBS players.

Monday's announcement marks the first time in his career that he's earned any MW Player of the Week honor, having been in the league since 2020. He is the second Bulldog this season to earn the defensive nod, joining Tuasivi Nomura from earlier this season.

Looking ahead, this next week will be another big one for Lockridge as he is set to go against his former team in the Hawai'i Rainbow Warriors. Fresno State will host Hawai'i on Saturday at 4 p.m. PT. The game will broadcast on Spectrum Sports, and air locally on CBS47. Tickets are still available at GoBulldogs.com.
