'Dogs claim podium finish at MPSF Open Water Championships

LONG BEACH, Calif. - Fresno State swim team took home third place in the MPSF second annual Open Water Championship at Marine Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Bulldogs' took third with 111 points, just trailing Cal Baptist by one point.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Laura Kalmar and Riley Baldwin claimed a finish in the top ten at seventh and ninth, respectively. Madison Caserio closed out the points for Fresno State with ninth place for a time of 1:09.47 and 12 points.

Ava Elliott trailed in seconds later tying for 15th place with a time of 1:00.49. Abigail Rousseau and Sera Hanagn rounded out the 'Dogs 5k group with 18th place and a tie for 24th, respectively.

Finishing the championships on the podium, Fresno State's A relay took the women's 2000 meter relay event. Melia, L. Kalmar, Arredondo, Baldwin took the event with a time of 24:58.00 giving the Bulldogs 64 points. The B relay of Pulkkinen, Laskey, Djatej, Rutkauskatie took the final podium position of the event for third place with a time of 26:12.00.

In her first open water event, Laura Kalmar led the Bulldogs in the women's 5k with a 7th place finish (1:08:15.00)

Three Bulldogs earned points for the Bulldogs in the 5k, Laura Kalmar (19), Riley Baldwin (16) and Madison Caserio (12)
