'Dogs complete first day of MW Fall Qualifier

LAS VEGAS - Fresno State women's tennis completed the first day of the MW Fall qualifier at the Darling Tennis Center on Wednesday afternoon.

MW Fall Qualifier opened with double pairs Matilde Magrini and Charlotte Gisclon. The pair defeated Utah State's Kukreti/ Sabikova, 8-3. The pair move on to the round of 16 and are set to play San Jose State's Ying Shek/ Urchoeguia on Thursday at 9:30 a.m.

Sofia Pizzoni got her first bite of action as a Bulldog in singles play against UNLV's Zhao. Pizzoni dropped the first set 4-6, then pulled a second set win, 6-2, to force a third set. Pizzoni fell in the third set, 1-6.

Gisclon and Magrini were next up on the courts. Gisclon fell to Colorado State's Weekley in two sets.

Magrini dominated early, claiming the first set 6-2. Boise State's Schaefer put up a tough fight the next set, Magrini overcame for a 7-5 second set win. Magrini retired in her singles round of 16 match against Hu.

UP NEXT: Day two of the MW Fall Qualifier will begin with the doubles round of 16 at 9:30 a.m. with singles quarterfinals to follow at 10:30 a.m. Both Pizzoni and Gisclon will play a consolation match from the draw of 32 singles who did not qualify to the round of 16.
