FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno State added two more players for the 2024-25 season on Monday afternoon in Horizon League Freshman of the Year David Douglas Jr. and NJCAA DIII All-American Jasir Tremble. They are the fifth and sixth additions for Fresno State head coach Vance Walberg.
Green Bay's No. 2 scorer last year, Douglas Jr., averaged 8.5 points per game, the most of any freshman in the Horizon League. He was tabbed as the program's first Horizon League Freshman of the Year and was a finalist for the 2023-24 Kyle Macy National Freshman of the Year.
"If you know my style of players then you know I love players that can shoot," Walberg. "DJ has all the traits to be really good in our system, plays with great pace, is an unselfish teammate that just wants to win, can beat players off the dribble and can absolutely bury you from the 3-point line. Last season he shot 39% as a freshman in a good league. He's a great kid off the floor and has a very strong family that we have loved to interact with. We're excited to welcome DJ to the Bulldog family."
The 6-foot-5 guard was a significant piece to the Phoenix's 15-game turnaround, the ninth best in NCAA Division I history. He posted 11 double-figure scoring games last season which included three 20-plus point performances.
Douglas Jr. shot 40.2% (76-of-189) from the field and 37.1% from 3 (52-of-140). The marksman had 12 games with multiple made 3-pointers, including a season-high six on two occasions.
A native of Park Forest, Ill., Douglas Jr. prepped at Yorkville Christian winning the Class 1A state championship as a junior. As he became the team's No. 1 option as a senior, he averaged 33.8 points per game, eighth-most in the nation in 2023, and added 9.4 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.9 steals per outing. His 1,083 points ranks seventh all-time in Illinois for a single season while his 339 made free throws set a state record and was the second-most in the country.
Tremble was a NJCAA Division III Second Team All-American in 2024 after averaging 23.4 points per game in his sophomore season. The 6-foot guard was a First Team All-Region selection and region tournament MVP while leading Prince George's CC to a 22-7 record which included Region 20 DIII and Mid-Atlantic District Championships. The Owls were the No. 7 seed at the national tournament.
"Jasir is another player we are happy to add to the program. He's a tough, shifty point guard that has big time outside shooting ability and is wired to score from all three levels," Walberg noted. "He's a winner and knows how to lead which we love at his position. He was named an All-American this past season and that is hard at any level so it's a true testament to his hard work and belief in self."
Tremble was selected to play in the NJCAA Men's Basketball All-Star Game where he went on to be named MVP of the South All-Stars with 28 points, four steals and two rebounds. He shot 10-of-15 from the field, going 6-of-8 from 3.
The 2023-24 season saw Tremble knock down 104 3-pointers on 37.8% shooting. He posted 19 20-point games and had seven with 30 or more.
In two seasons with the Owls, Tremble played in 50 games, totaling 1,055 points (21.1 ppg) while shooting 46.4% from the field and 39.2% from beyond the arc (159-of-193).
