'Dogs have 14 named to Athlon Sports preseason All-MW team

FRESNO, Calif. - Athlon Sports revealed its preseason All-Mountain West football team on Thursday that featured 14 Bulldogs among the 2024 selections.

The Bulldogs' picks were headlined by first team selections Mikey Keene (QB), Malik Sherrod (RB), Mose Vavao (OL) and Devo Bridges (DL). Sherrod was also noted as an all-purpose player to the first team.

Fresno State had its most selections on the second team behind offensive selections Jalen Moss (WR), Jacob Spomer (OL) and Braylen Nelson (OL). Malachi Langley (LB) and Cam Lockridge (CB) were defensive picks while Dylan Lynch (K) was a special teams pick.

USC transfer Korey Foreman (DL) and Al'zillion Hamilton (CB) were third team defense picks. Sherrod was again noted, this time as a third team kickoff returner.

Mac Dalena (WR) and Dean Clark (S) rounded out the Bulldog picks on the fourth team.

Fresno State finished the 2023 season with a 9-4 overall record and a win over New Mexico State in the Isleta New Mexico Bowl.

The Bulldogs open the 2024 season at Michigan on August 31. The 2024 opener will be the first time in the CFP era that the Bulldogs will face the defending national champion. The last time the Bulldogs faced the defending national champion was a 2005 matchup with USC. Fresno State last faced the defending national champion in the season opener in 1927, playing at Stanford on Sept. 17, 1927. Stanford was the 1926 co-national champion, along with Alabama.
