'Dogs dominate in comeback win over Lobos

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Fresno State baseball team extended their conference win streak to 10 games with a 23-19 win over the New Mexico Lobos at Santa Ana Star Field on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Bulldogs took an early lead as Rocco Peppi crushed a 448-foot home run over the left field wall.

The Lobos retaliated in the bottom of the first with a pair of runs on back-to-back RBI hits.

A pair of two-out doubles and a moonshot from Grady Morgan put the Bulldogs back in front in the third, 4-2.

The Lobos had an explosive third inning, scoring seven on seven hits.

Murf Gray started chipping away at the Lobo lead as he crushed a 423-foot home run to left center, scoring Tommy Hopfe who had singled to lead off the fifth.

New Mexico's lead was extended in the sixth with a two-run home run to make it an 11-6 game.

The Bulldogs started their late rally in the seventh inning, scoring two runs from RBI singles from Ben Newton and Justin Stransky.

Fresno State pushed ahead with three RBI singles from Ben Newton, Cam Schneider and Justin Stransky to make it a 12-11 game.

The Bulldog offense exploded in the top of the ninth inning, scoring 11 runs on four RBI singles and three RBI doubles.

The Lobos attempted a late eight-run rally in the bottom of the ninth but could not catch up to the Bulldogs. Fresno State took a 23-19 win to claim another conference series.

NOTES

Rocco Peppi has hit a home run in four straight games for the Bulldogs and now has a team-leading 10 on the season.

Fresno State has tied its longest conference winning streak since 2008 when they won 10 straight as a member of the Western Athletic Conference.

The Bulldogs scored 11 runs in the top of the ninth, just two shy of the team's record for runs in a single inning.
