'Dogs sting Hornets, 5-4

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Fresno State baseball team defeated the Sacramento State Hornets 5-4 at John Smith Field on Tuesday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Eddie Saldivar hit a standup double to right center on the first pitch of the game, and was driven in by Rocco Peppi, who hit a double in the very next at-bat.

The Bulldogs took a 4-0 lead in the top of the third with a sacrifice fly from Murf Gray and back-to-back RBI singles from Bobby Blandford and Tyler Davis.

The Hornets started to rally in the third with a three-run homer to straight-away center.

The offense slowed for both clubs until the sixth inning when Rocco Peppi hit his second RBI double of the night to bring in Saldivar.

The Bulldogs held the Hornets scoreless until the bottom of the ninth when they hit an RBI triple to make it a 5-4 game, but the rally came up short.
