RENO, Nev. – With six players seeing the court, Fresno State battled on the road at Nevada before falling 74-66 at Lawlor Events Center on Friday night. Trailing by as much as 17 midway through the second half, the Bulldogs fought back to as close as seven late in the game.
Isaiah Hill and Isaac Taveras had a team-high 16 points. The freshman scored his 16 in 18 minutes off the bench. The Wolf Pack were led by Jarod Lucas' 21 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Opening the scoring with a corner 3 from Isaiah Hill, Fresno State jumped out to a 7-2 advantage. Nevada turned the tide, scoring 15 of the next 17 points to go up 17-9 and forced the Bulldogs to call their first timeout with 11:27 on the clock.
Six more from the Wolf Pack and Fresno State called another timeout to reset, trailing 23-9 with 11 minutes gone. Issac Taveras got to the bucket out of the break to end the five-minute drought.
Taveras gave the 'Dogs a lift with eight points on 4-of-4 shooting in the first half but Nevada kept its lead in double figures. The Wolf Pack took a 37-24 lead into the half following Leo Colimerio's third foul on a drive with 0.7 on the clock.
Xavier DuSell got going in the second, knocking down his second 3-pointer three minutes in to bring the 'Dogs within 10 at 42-32.
Trailing by double digits throughout the second half, the Bulldogs pulled within seven with 1:28 remaining. DuSell was fouled for the second time on the night attempting a 3 and proceeded to make all three free throws go down 70-63.
Forced to foul down the stretch, Fresno State could not get any closer.
NOTES
Fresno State allowed over 50 percent shooting from the field for the fourth game in the last five.
Fresno State outscored Nevada 30-20 in the paint.
The Bulldogs were outscored by 12 at the 3-point line, allowing the Wolf Pack to shoot 44.0 percent from 3 (11-of-25).
Four Bulldogs reached double figures (Isaiah Hill, Isaac Taveras, Xavier DuSell, Leo Colimerio).
Tying for a team-high 16 points, Isaiah Hill led the Bulldogs with four assists. The point guard had zero turnovers for the third consecutive game.
Isaac Taveras reached double figures for the fourth time this season with a career-high 16 points.
Taveras also grabbed a career-high five rebounds.
