Nieto Jasny earns GCC Player of the Week nod

LOS ANGELES - Fresno State senior goalkeeper Paula Nieto Jasny has been named the Golden Coast Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced on Thursday.

Nieto Jasny recorded 31 saves in four games last weekend, helping the Bulldogs defeat another No. 1 team and finish second at the UCSD Triton Invitational. She allowed just 31 goals in the four games and had over a .500 save percentage in three of the four games over the weekend.

Notably, Nieto Jasny was a turning point in the Bulldogs' win over No. 1 USC as she recorded eight saves while holding the Trojans to just seven goals for their lowest scored in a game since the 2023 MPSF Championship game against Stanford. Nieto Jasny played all 32 minutes in each of the four games on the schedule last weekend.

Fresno State went 2-2 last week, earning wins over No. 6 UC Irvine and No. 1 USC behind the efforts from the senior keeper from Spain. The Bulldogs defeated the nation's top-ranked team for the second time this season, moving them up to No. 3 in this week's CWPA team rankings. The Bulldogs became the highest-ranked Fresno State program since softball was ranked No. 2 in 1999. The Bulldogs also earned the highest ranking by a program in GCC women's water polo history.

In three weeks of competition, Nieto Jasny is the second Bulldog to earn the GCC Player of the Week nod as Abbey Simshauser was the Week 1 standout player. For Nieto Jasny, this is her fourth career GCC Player of the Week accolade.

The Bulldogs are off this week, but return to the pool with the Bulldog Mini at the Aquatics Center on Feb. 16-17.
