Firpo leads 'Dogs through day one in Arizona

TUCSON, Ariz. — The Fresno State men's golf team had a strong first day of the Arizona N.I.T., shooting a 21-under par to sit in fifth place before play was suspended due to darkness late in the second round.

Fresno State sits behind New Mexico at 35-under, Arizona State at 34-under, host Arizona at 30-under and BYU at 22-under to round out the Top five of the 18-team field.

Freshman Ryan Firpo was the low Bulldog on Monday, finishing 7-under, tied for ninth place. Firpo shot a 3-under 68 in the first round, before shooting 3-under par through the first 14 holes of the second round.

Matthew Manganello sits close behind at 6-under, followed by Joseph Lloyd at 5-under.

The NIT will wrap-up tomorrow at OMNI Tucson National with the conclusion of the second round, followed by the final round.
