Pace breaks program's triple jump record in Spokane

SPOKANE, Wash. – On Friday at the Spokane Sports Showcase, Rachela Pace became just the third Fresno State triple jumper, indoor or outdoor, to record a mark of at least 13 meters. The junior surpassed both, breaking the program record with a jump of 13.29m/43-7.25 en route to winning the event.

Pace started her day in the long jump with a season-best mark of 5.87m/19-3.25, to finish fourth.

After opening her career with a second-place finish and the No. 4 mark at Fresno State in the high jump, Liz Tarczy cleared the same height she did last month. With a clearance of 1.71m/5-7.25, the freshman won the event on Friday. Senior Kaitlynn Perez placed third with a height of 1.66m/5-5.25.

On the track, Ceonna Pipion picked up her first win of the indoor season. The Mountain West's most recent Women's Track Athlete of the Week with her time in the 400 meters at the Spokane Invitational, Pipion clocked a time of 24.23 in the 200 meters.

After going 2-3 in the weight throw in the season-opening meet, Cierra Jackson and Amelia DiPoala went 1-2 the second time around with season bests. Jackson landed a mark of 18.54m/60-10 to win the event while her senior teammate finished with a best throw of 17.50m/57-5. Emma Harper placed third with a toss of 16.75m/54-11.50.

Jackson and DiPaola went 2-3 in the shot put with Jackson recording a toss of 14.81m/48-7.25 and DiPaola at 14.26m/46-9.5.
