FRESNO, Calif.- Fresno State women's basketball is back at the Save Mart Center this Friday to host UC Merced at 6 p.m. PT

BULLDOG BONES

Fresno State enters the 2023-24 season with a revamped roster that includes seven newcomers, who will join eight returners.

Fresno State opened the season with a win at home against Fresno Pacific, 70-42.

True freshman Taija Sta. Maria led the Bulldogs as the leading scorer with 12 points, fellow Bulldogs Mia Jacobs and Sydney Dethman following closely behind with 11 points and 10 points, respectively.

Fresno State spent more than half of the game (vs.Fresno Pacific) with the lead, at 30 minutes.

Fresno State started two new players and three returners in the first game of the season. The returners put up a combined 23 points, 14 rebounds and five assists.

ABOUT THE MATCHUP

This will be the fifth meeting between the two programs since 2013. Fresno State leads the all time series 5-0 with all meetings at the Save Mart Center. Fresno State's last home win against UC Merced was 71-28 win on Nov. 22, 2022.

UC Merced will face Fresno State for the Bobcat's fourth non-conference match of the season. UC Merced sit (1-2) going into tomorrows game, coming off a 56-80 loss to Rochester University in Rio Grande, OH.

With four seniors gone and one transferring to UC San Diego, the Bobcats have a fresh faced roster. With over half of the team freshman (11), three returners and six transferring in from community colleges.

SLY AS A FOX

True-freshman Kylee Fox had a stellar game, stealing the show in the last minutes of play. Fox received the majority of her playing time in the fourth quarter and made the most of it. Scoring nine points, a three-pointer, four steals and three rebounds. Fox scored the one of the final shots for Fresno State off a steal and a fast break into the paint for a layup. Fox led the Bulldogs in three game high categories, in field goals made with four, in three-pointers made with one (tied with Keely Brown), in steals with four, and in blocked shots with one (tied with three other players).

A LOOK AT THE SIGNEES

Fresno State women's basketball team has signed two new players for the 2024-25 season, Rayna Williams and Danae Powell.

Williams a Texas native from Legion Preparatory Academy. Williams comes from a strong family of basketball players, her father, Marvin, played at the University of Princeton (1998-92), sister Jade played at Duke University (2017-22) and older brother Tre currently plays at the University Tulane (2022-present). Williams earned First-Team All-District and Academic All-District in high school. Powell's a Nevada native from Centennial high school, on of the top-ranked women's high school programs in Las Vegas.
