Dy hires pair of assistant coaches to staff

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State head women's tennis coach Denise Dy has announced the hiring of a pair of assistant coaches in Daniel Baturyn and Julia Deming to join her staff for the 2023-24 season.

Baturyn was a men's tennis player at Fresno State for two seasons (2019-21). He has a competitive tennis background of 16 years as a player, while playing collegiately for those two seasons. The native of San Leandro, Calif. graduated from Fresno State with a degree in business administration with an emphasis in accounting.

Baturyn is no stranger to the women's tennis program as he was the team's manager for two seasons.

Deming is a new face to the Valley, and Dy has hired her for her first collegiate coaching position. She played collegiately at Kansas from 2018-22. The Fallbrook, Calif. native was a part of the Jayhawks' 2019 Big 12 championship team. She was recognized throughout her career with multiple ITA academic honors.

"I would like to thank Denise and the Fresno State staff for this amazing opportunity," Deming said. "I am extremely excited to begin my college coaching career at a university with such a strong program. After being away from the college tennis atmosphere for the past year, I am eager to get back on the court and help the student-athletes reach their full potential on and off the tennis courts."

While at Kansas, Deming was awarded the USTA Evelyn Houseman Lifetime Sportsmanship Award in 2019, recognizing her sportsmanship in the game of tennis.

After completing her collegiate eligibility, Deming remained at Kansas to complete her master's degree in sport psychology. Going through her graduate program helped her to learn more about the mental side of sports and how to help athletes cope with emotions that may be affecting their performance and enjoyment of their sport.
