'Dogs in fourth through Round 1 at Maui Jim Intercollegiate

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Through 18 holes at the Maui Jim Intercollegiate, Fresno State sits in fourth place, combining for an 11-under par 273 on Friday at Mirabel Country Club. No. 6 Auburn leads the 15-team field at 24-under, followed by San Diego State at 21-under and SMU at 18-under.

"Today was a solid start," said head coach Chad Spencer. "It's a 'first shot' golf course, we have to keep driving well. Hopefully we can keep climbing up the leaderboard."

The Bulldogs were 8-under through their first nine holes, totaling 11 birdies. Matthew Sutherland had a quick start with four birdies, leading the team into the turn.

Joseph Lloyd, playing in his hometown of Scottdale, picked it up for Fresno State on the back nine. He recorded three birdies down the stretch and capped off the day with an eagle on the 18th hole. The junior shot a team-best 66, 5-under par. Lloyd finished the day tied for 10th overall.

Fresno State will open Round 2 tomorrow at 9:20 a.m. PT.
