'Dogs close out regular season with 12-run shutout

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State baseball team closed out the regular season with a 12-0 win over Saint Mary's on Friday night at Pete Beiden Field at Bob Bennett Stadium.

The win leaves the Diamond 'Dogs with a final regular season record of 29-25 and sit at 21-20 ahead of the Mountain West Championship being held at The Pete, starting Thursday.

NOTES:

Seven Bulldog seniors were honored before Friday's game: Trevor Garcia, Travis Welker, Blake Wink, Roman Angelo, Nikoh Mitchell, Will Springer and Payton Allen.

Tommy Hopfe had a standout game, going 4-for-5 with two RBIs.

Murf Gray and Marco Pirruccello both hit home runs for the 'Dogs.

Robbie Peters closed the game on the mound with a three-up, three-down inning.

Fresno State only had two scoreless offensive innings for the second time this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Murf Gray crushed a moon shot to left field to give Fresno State an early three-run advantage. Tommy Hopfe added three more with an RBI single in the bottom of the second.

Marco Pirruccello hit his fifth home run of the season to score Tommy Hopfe in the fourth.

The Bulldogs tacked on three more runs in the sixth with five hits, including RBI singles from Tyler Davis and Travis Welker.
