'Dogs fall 4-3 to Aztecs in extra innings

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State baseball team dropped the series opener against San Diego State 4-3 in extra innings on Friday night at Pete Beiden Field at Bob Bennett Stadium.

The 'Dogs now sit at 15-17 on the season (7-9 MW) and the Aztecs advance to 13-17 (8-3 MW).

NOTES:

Starting pitcher Ixan Henderson tossed a season-high 10 strikeouts.

Reining Mountain West Freshman of the week Murf Gray crushed his third home run of the season to extend his eight-game hitting streak.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Two hits in the top of the second led to the Aztecs taking an early 1-0 lead.

SDSU earned another run in the top of the fifth after a sacrifice fly from Tino Bethancourt, and then extended their lead to 3-0 after an RBI single in the top of the seventh.

The Aztecs shut out the 'Dogs for seven innings before reining Freshman of the Week Murf Gray crushed his third home run of the season to tie the game and plate all three of Fresno State's runs.

In the top of the 10th, the Aztecs scored the go-ahead run with an RBI single to left field. The Bulldog offense was not able to recover and fell 4-3 to SDSU.
