FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno State opened the Bulldog Classic on Friday with a pair of wins at Warmerdam Field in the women's hammer and javelin.
The Bulldogs went 1-2 in the hammer behind Amelia DiPaola and Jocelynn Budwig. DiPaola claimed the win with a new personal best of 61.46m/201-8 on her final throw. That mark came after what was her short-lived record when she landed a toss of 61.14m/200-7 on her fifth attempt. Budwig's best throw came in at 53.22m/174-7.
Between the wins, Isaiah Calvin placed second in the men's javelin, landing a new personal record of 56.75m/186-2 on his fourth attempt.
On the women's side, the 'Dogs took the top five spots with Harriette Mortlock earning the win at 49.93m/163-10. Cerah Moren was just behind her with a season-best of 48.39m/158-9. Chloe Wood went just over a meter farther than last week with a new PR of 46.23m/151-8. Heptathlete Kaja Bins set a five-meter plus best, registering a mark of 40.35m/132-4.
Day 2 of the Bulldog Classic will resume tomorrow at 10 a.m. for 'Dogs with the women's long jump.
