'Dogs fall to Sacramento State

FRESNO, Calif. - Held to six hits on the night, the Diamond 'Dogs were blanked by visiting Sacramento State, 9-0 on Wednesday evening at Pete Beiden Field at Bob Bennett Stadium.

Fresno State (8-7) got two-hit performances from both Jaden Sheppard and Travis Welker while getting one single apiece from Payton Allen and Murf Gray.

On the pitching side, the Bulldogs used seven pitchers with Trevor Garcia making his second start of the season and was followed by Bryce Armstrong, Will Springer, Robbie Peters, Zach Statzer, Jaykob Acosta and Aidan Cremarosa.

How It Happened

A solo home run by the Hornets' Gunner Gouldsmith in the first inning got the scoring started for Sacramento State.

A five-run fourth inning extended the Hornets' lead to 6-0 as the 'Dogs left two runners on base in each of the third, fourth, fifth and seventh innings.

Three more runs for the visitors gave Sacramento State a 9-0 lead as the Bulldogs were shutout for only the second time this season.
