'Dogs open up Spring Football on Monday

FRESNO, Calif. - The 2022 Mountain West and LA Bowl Champions make their return to the turf next Monday (Mar. 6) as the Fresno State football team has its first of 15 spring football practices inside Valley Children's Stadium.

The Bulldogs' spring season will conclude with the Spring Preview, a part of the larger Bulldog Block Party, on Saturday, April 15. More information on the Bulldog Block Party will be announced soon.

All practices outside of the Spring Preview are closed to the general public.

Notable

Fresno State won the 2022 Mountain West Championship. It was the fourth conference title for the Bulldogs, and the second under head coach Jeff Tedford.

Fresno State won its 16th bowl game in program history with a victory over Washington State in the 2022 Jimmy Kimmel LA Bowl.

Fresno State finished the 2022 season with a 10-4 record. With 10 wins a season ago, Fresno State has had 13 double-digit winning seasons in its program history, five coming since 2013.

The Bulldogs were ranked No. 24 in the final AP rankings. It was the fourth time in program history that Fresno State finished the season in the Top 25. Fresno State was the only MW program to be ranked in the AP Poll at any point in the 2022 season.

The Bulldogs are heading into their second season under head coach Jeff Tedford, who is in his second tenure as head coach at Fresno State.

Fresno State returns 16 starters and 43 letterwinners.

The Bulldogs return four starters on offense, seven on defense and five specialists.

Of the returning letterwinners, 14 are offensive players, 24 are defense and five are specialists.

The Bulldogs lost 12 starters and 18 letterwinners.

The Bulldogs have a new offensive coordinator for 2023 in Pat McCann. McCann served as the team's wide receivers coach and pass game coordinator in 2022.

Fresno State has new faces on the offensive coaching staff in Brian Armstrong (offensive line) and Aaron Prier (running backs).

Tedford named Matt Wade the Bulldogs' quarterbacks coach. In 2022, Wade served as offensive quality control for the Bulldogs, and worked alongside then-offensive coordinator Kirby Moore with the quarterbacks.

The entire defensive side of the ball is coached by the same staff as in 2022.
