’Dogs fall 8-1 to Redhawks on Day 3

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State softball team lost 8-1 to the Seattle U Redhawks on Saturday night at Margie Wright Diamond.

As a team, Fresno State (4-5) recorded five hits, including a 2-for-3 night at the plate by first baseman Juliana Wilson, who also tallied eight defensive putouts in the contest.

Seattle U (7-2) remained undefeated in the 2023 Fresno State Kickoff Classic heading into its final game of the tournament on Sunday morning against Iowa State.

The Bulldogs will face Idaho State in the tournament finale on Sunday with first pitch slated for 2:35 p.m. PT on CW59 (local television), the Mountain West Network (stream) and the Bulldogs Sports Network (radio).

HOW IT HAPPENED

After Seattle U scored three times in the third and added five more in the sixth, Fresno State plated a run in the sixth on Taryn Irigoyen's sacrifice fly, which scored Wilson, who had doubled to left center to start the frame.

Hannah Ortega made her first start (fourth appearance) in the circle for the Bulldogs this season and went 2.1 innings.

Bailey Doherty and Shelbi Denman also pitched in the contest, and the three Bulldog pitchers combined for five strikeouts and contained the Redhawks outside of the third and sixth innings.
